This baked version of a classic is hassle-free and packed with sweet apples, cinnamon and brown sugar. Sweet Apple French Toast is an easy way to make any morning special.
Preheat oven to 375ºF.
Grease non-stick baking sheet with butter.
Press brown sugar through a strainer to remove lumps; sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar evenly over baking sheet.
Whisk milk, eggs, applesauce, rum flavoring, vanilla, nutmeg and salt in shallow bowl. Dip bread slices until thoroughly moistened.
Place on baking sheet and sprinkle with remaining brown sugar.
Bake for about 20 minutes, turning once, until the toast is lightly browned and sugar is caramelized.
Serve on warm plates with syrup and fruit garnish.
